 It is Poy’s last night in the Philippines. He and his family are again migrating somewhere far from home. Feeling disoriented by this impending move, he runs away to Manila, the city he never had the chance to know.The night grants him a chance meeting with a weary local named Shirley, who is grappling with her own life’s disappointments. Bound by the night’s unfortunate events, he follows her through the city, where they must decide between facing their anxieties or being consumed by them. |

 Jacob Alcala (b. 2001) is a Filipino filmmaker and cinematographer based in Vancouver, Canada. Raised in the Philippines and the UAE, his perspective was further shaped in the Netherlands, where he graduated cum laude in Audiovisual Design with a minor in Cultural Diversity from the Willem de Kooning Academy.
His work delves into themes of identity, belonging, and adolescence, deeply rooted in his upbringing and experiences as a second-generation Filipino immigrant. His debut short film, Until Then (2023), is a coming-of-age drama that became the first Philippines-Netherlands co-production chosen by 3LAB, a talent program from the Dutch television channel NPO3. His apprenticeship at Rotterdam’s Rauwkost Film broadened his cinematic skills, making him a versatile filmmaker. |
