Leftovers

Directed by Rajinee Buquing
The music video “Leftovers” by queer Filipinx singer-songwriter, sayang, delves into the emotional aftermath of a broken relationship. Through a series of evocative visuals, we follow a woman (movement artist Hailey Summers) as she navigates the haunting memories that remain in her bedroom. Everyday objects, once shared with their partner, now serve as painful reminders of a connection lost. As she attempts to move forward, the past keeps pulling her back, revealing the tension of holding on and letting go. The video captures the quiet moments of introspection, the struggle to reconcile with unresolved feelings, and the slow, painful process of healing. In the end, “Leftovers” is a poignant exploration of the emotional residue that lingers long after love has departed, visually exploring intuitive movement and breathwork as a grounding process toward clarity, presence and moving forward every day.

Rajinee’s work represents a blend of visual and sonic poetry as a songwriter, musical artist, and filmmaker based in Austin, TX. Under the Ilocano moniker, ‘sayang’, she produces genre nonconforming music and lyrics that embody their queerness, sensitivity, themes of longing & belonging, self-reflection & ultimately self-discovery.

Concurrently, Rajinee is a cinematographer in independent narrative & documentary film. She is fascinated with capturing intimate spaces both physical and emotional while practicing a compassionate lens, and forming deep connections with people in the process of storytelling. Her past credits include 2023 Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner and Jury & Audience Award Winner at SDFFF, “When You Left Me On That Boulevard” directed by Kayla Abuda Galang and 2019 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection & Queer Palm Nominee, “Jeremiah” directed by Kenya Gillespie.

Venturing into a directorial path of her own, she hopes to consciously bring authentic BIPOC/queer representation in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
