Pandemic Bread

A short drama about a Filipino interpreter taking an end-of-life call with a doctor and an elderly woman with COVID-19. A story of resilience and hope told through the eyes of the interpreter who bakes bread during the call.

Zeinabu irene Davis is an independent filmmaker and Professor of Communication at the University of California, San Diego. Her work is passionately concerned with the depiction of women of African descent and ranges across genres, including narrative, experimental, and documentary. Davis’s dramatic feature film Compensation (1999) is currently being remastered for the Criterion Collection and was recently programmed for TMC’s Black Independent Film showcase. New Yorker magazine lists it as “One of the greatest American independent films ever made.”
