As passionate independent filmmakers, Allan Ibanez and Dexter Hemedez have dedicated themselves to weaving narratives that resonate deeply with the experiences of Asian immigrants, a reflection of their own journey. Among their recent achievements, they brought to life the compelling Asian-American gay series, “STAY,” which they directed, produced, wrote, and edited as well. It is their utmost desire to share their most personal and heartfelt work with a broader audience, in the hopes that their web series will inspire, uplift, and shed light on the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQIA+ immigrants like themselves.

Adding to their remarkable journey, Allan and Dexter achieved a milestone with the family-comedy feature film “First Semester.” Serving as directors, writers, and producers, the film garnered critical acclaim and won prestigious awards across international film festivals. Notably, it graced the screen at the esteemed American Film Institute, a moment that filled them with immense pride. Their coming-of-age film also served as an important tool for character formation among high school students in the Philippines.

Allan and Dexter also had the chance to direct, write and produce a short film titled “The Reliever.” The project was close to their hearts, as it centered around the story of a young Filipino American, forced to take care of a grumpy, bed-ridden patient after his undocumented father got detained at Los Angeles Airport. It won the Best Short Film award at the Glendale International Film Festival.

During the challenging times, Allan and Dexter channeled their creativity into an award-winning animated short film titled “Happiness Isn’t Cancelled.” It was an emotional journey for them and they were grateful that the film resonated with families and children worldwide, offering comfort amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Before embarking on their independent filmmaking journey, Allan and Dexter were Episode Writers for ABS-CBN Network, where they had the privilege of being part of some of the most successful and top-rated television series like “Be Careful With My Heart,” “Rosalka,” “Maria La Del Barrio,” “Only You,” and “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita.”

Through their independent endeavors, Allan and Dexter aim to bring immigrant stories to the forefront, shedding light on their struggles and triumphs while sharing their unique perspective and bittersweet experiences. It’s both a privilege and a responsibility for them to share these narratives with the world, and they are committed to continuing this creative journey, uplifting the voices of their community, and fostering greater understanding and empathy through the power of storytelling.
